Happy Death Day (2017)★★★★☆

At this point, I don’t even know why I let myself be skeptical of things anymore. I finally got around to watching this movie, because it’s almost my birthday. I’d been avoiding it because it has a silly name and a bunch of unknown actors and I just feel like that rarely works out?

I also somehow didn’t hear anything about this movie when it came out, until it got a sequel…and then I don’t remember hearing anything about that either. So I wasn’t totally optimistic about this. BUT I am optimistic about the sequel, because I really enjoyed this one.

Sure, I wanted Tree to die the first several times. I got the impression that was the point. But she grew on me. And Carter grew on me. And solving the mystery grew on me. And by the end of this, I was back on Tree’s side.

It’s not super scary. It’s also not super gory (though there’s a bit of that!). But it’s short, and it’s fun, and I was pleasantly surprised.
