I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998)★★★★☆
You know, I had already watched this recently (past couple years, I think?) for some reason, and even still had forgotten how fun and funny this one is. I think I may have watched it after some video talking about Jack Black’s ridiculous character? Who definitely adds to the fun, by the way.
I don’t know if this is actually a better movie than the first, but it is a more enjoyable one. I think Jennifer Love Hewitt shows a bit more emotion (and her singing chops…not only when Julie does some karaoke in the film, but with Hewitt’s actual single “How Do I Deal” playing over the end credits!), and there’s a whole bunch of familiar faces that add to the entertainment.
I already mentioned Jack Black. Jennifer Esposito is in it. Matthew Settle, primarily (to me) of Gossip Girl fame is in it. Bill Cobbs (who passed away just last week, RIP). And there are a couple familiar faces from some of my favorite horror films! Jeffrey Combs and Mekhi Phifer! So I was primed to like this one better already.
The reveal is a bit obvious from the start, and there are definitely times where the film drags on towards the middle, but this is a mostly enjoyable slasher film that I’d recommend even if you haven’t seen the first one. I think they give you enough context to understand and enjoy this on its own.
