Insidious: The Last Key (2018)★★★★☆

Ugh, honestly, has there been any franchise I like more than Insidious? I have not rated an Insidious movie less than 4 stars yet, and this one isn’t the one to change that. I guess we’ll see how tomorrow’s movie does, but for now, I just…clearly I love this series.

I love Lin Shaye, and the character Elise Rainier. I love learning more about Elise’s past. I LOVE Leigh Whannell, and the character Specs. I even love Angus Sampson and his character Tucker. I’m glad they’re all together in all of these movies. There’s something about their chemistry that works so well together.

Apparently I mostly really enjoy Leigh Whannell’s writing. I believe he wrote ALL the Insidious films, and I have clearly enjoyed them all. The characters are compelling and somehow the stories remain interesting!

I also think these movies do jump scares perfectly. They don’t solely rely on them, but they do have them, and they’re perfectly placed. In this one especially, there are times when you’re at the edge of your seat waiting for a jump scare, and it comes AFTER you’ve settled yourself in a little bit. So good.

I don’t know if I’d recommend this one as a standalone if you haven’t already seen and liked all the others, but I definitely recommend this one within the franchise!
