Insidious: The Red Door (2023)★★★★☆
I have never SO BADLY wanted a franchise to be good and done with forever as much as this one. Not because this was a bad movie, but because it was a good one. Please, let it end on a good note.
This was Patrick Wilson’s directorial debut, and it doesn’t show! I thought it was really well done. I loved seeing Ty Simpkins mostly grown up! It was great to have Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne back! And somehow the story was STILL interesting!
Even with less Elise and Specs and Tucker than I’d usually prefer in an Insidious movie, I liked this one. Even with a return to a lot of the same themes from the first few movies, I liked this one.
It’s only four stars instead of five because there are a few dragging points, and because I wanted a LITTLE more “scary stuff,” but I genuinely liked this movie, and I kind of think it’s the perfect way to end this series.
I hope Leigh Whannell agrees, though I know Hollywood LOVES returning to old franchises…
