Long Weekend (1979)★★☆☆☆
I’m still not feeling very talkative, or maybe I’m just choosing movies that don’t give me much to say. Either way, I don’t have much to say about this one.
It has the makings of something intense and scary. A couple goes camping in the Australian outback, tests nature by littering and damaging trees and wildlife, and nature fights back! Australian nature!
And there are some really neat shots of Australian wildlife in this. Honestly, there are some long shots where it’s JUST the wildlife, and those are probably the best part of the movie. Kangaroos, koalas, lots and lots of birds…really neat.
But the movie itself is pretty boring. It drags on, neither character is particularly likable (on purpose, I imagine), and the scary scenes are a bit over-the-top for me. The scenes with the eagle or the (very cute Australian) possum are the best examples.
I’d skip this one unless you mute it and keep it on in the background.
