Mother's Day (2010)★★★★☆
It’s Mother’s Day in the USA (unintentional rhyme, sorry?), so this is…well, it’s not really “appropriate” but it’s…fitting?
This movie is violent, often graphically so. That’s not usually my cup of tea, but it works for me here. I have to imagine it’s because of the cast.
Like, it’s been a while since I’ve watched anything with Frank Grillo! And I don’t think I’ve watched ANY scary movies with Rebecca De Mornay before?
This also has Matt O’Leary, most recently seen in Frailty, Shawn Ashmore, and Jamie King, all of whom I think are pretty good!
But perhaps my favorite member of this cast is Warren Kole (look, I DO love Frank Grillo, but he’s kind of a wimpy jerk in this). Warren Kole plays Jeff in Yellowjackets, who is decidedly NOT my favorite character, but who DOES have one of my favorite scenes of the first two seasons.
So yeah. This movie isn’t great, and it’s full of blood and gore, but it has a decent cast, a story that fits together, and despite being close to two hours, it never drags on and feels much shorter, so it gets bonus points for that!
I guess it’s also a remake of a 1980 movie? That one doesn’t have ANY familiar (to me) faces, so I feel pretty okay skipping it entirely.
