Possessor (2020)★★★★☆

I don’t really remember what I thought of this movie when I first saw it, but I remember thinking it was weird, and I definitely still think that. I guess it’s to be expected from a (Brandon) Cronenberg film?

On rewatching it…well, it’s still weird, and I’m still not quite sure what I think about it.

(Spoilers ahead) On the one hand, I appreciate that the movie doesn’t try to over-explain the technology behind everything, and just kind of throws you in the middle of things. And things are weird and terrifying!

I really like everyone in it. I appreciate the difficulty of the personality…what, layers? Not quite the right word, but there’s a depth of acting that I think is required to pull off so many people essentially playing the same character at times.

I don’t know. This movie is a bit depressing, a bit slow-feeling (though overall I think the pacing is fine), and a whole lot of weird. There’s a good amount of horrifying, surreal body horror throughout which - again, kind of typical of a Cronenberg?

I don’t know if I’m just feeling overly generous, but I think I liked this enough for four stars.
