Prom Night (2008)★★★★☆

Well I definitely liked this better than the original. For a few reasons, really. But it’s definitely not perfect.

First off, I found this film to be much more about “prom night” than the original. The original culminated on prom night but was primarily about a night from years before. This movie had references to a night from years before, but was primarily focused on prom night and all that comes along with being a senior at your senior prom (I assume, as I didn’t actually go to my own senior prom).

I also found the story more interesting and the tension greater in this movie, which also made it a bit scarier, even with the PG-13 rating. And I guess I just generally like Brittany Snow. But also there are some very familiar faces in this, like Ming-Na Wen and Idris Elba!

So I mostly liked this, but there were some REALLY stupid things people did throughout. Like absolutely terrible police work. Just really awful, horrifyingly negligent police work. And Donna closing a window and not bothering to lock it.

But those things didn’t take me out of the story too much, and it’s a short watch, so I’d still basically recommend it pretty broadly.
