Prometheus (2012)★★★★☆

Poster

I can’t believe it’s July already. I mean, I can believe it, but I can’t really believe it. I saw this movie in theaters (albeit for a Sunday morning matinee if I recall correctly) a few years back and as I went in with no expectations, so I enjoyed it.

It was nice to see something in the Alien universe (even if only tangentially) and this was definitely better than last night’s contribution. It at least added something new to the universe.

It’s not perfect but it’s got a pretty stellar cast and, well, a director who holds a unique perspective on this universe as its creator. Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba and Guy Pearce may be the most well-known of the cast, but they’re just the supporting cast here. Noomi Rapace is the real star of this film, and she’s awesome as Dr. Elizabeth Shaw. Logan Marshall-Green is equally good as Dr. Charlie Holloway, though his role is brief.

Anyway, this movie leaves a few questions unanswered, so I’m looking forward to seeing what the next installment brings. This one is pretty entertaining, and although there are a few kind of graphic and disturbing scenes, it’s a pretty entertaining watch.
