Red State (2011)★★★★☆

After the disappointment that was Yoga Hosers, I had to go back and see if I still enjoyed this one as much as I remembered from my first watch. Plus it’s been a while since I’ve seen Kyle Gallner in a scary movie. I’m not going to lie though, this one hits a little harder this year than it did in 2011. A lot harder, even.

Mostly because this is genuinely hard to watch. Aside from several frequent flyer familiar faces, you might not even know this is a Kevin Smith movie. It’s dark and it’s bleak and (spoiler alert) there’s no happy ending.

I forgot just how dark and bleak this was. It’s hard to recommend but it’s a good scare. Michael Parks is SO GOOD in it, and everyone else is pretty darn good too.
