Significant Other (2022)★★★☆☆

This is a weird little movie, and I know that’s not the first time I’ve said that this year. It was okay? It’s not too long but it’s pretty slow, especially at the beginning.

There are some really weird, funny moments throughout, which I think is intentional. The whole thing doesn’t take itself too seriously, but it does deal with some pretty serious topics.

I do wish the music weren’t so over the top (except for the final song, that can and should absolutely stay right where it is). Like, yeah, sure, I get it, you think the audience should be feeling some kind of way at this moment…but you can’t make that happen with a cute little anxious note.

And yeah, the end is a bit unsatisfying and perhaps a bit much, but it’s really only a half-second or so. I don’t know. I don’t think you should skip this one necessarily, but I wouldn’t go into it with super high expectations or anything either.
