Straw Dogs (1971)★★★☆☆

I had a lot of problems with this movie. I thought the acting was great, but the pacing was off and parts of the story didn’t sit right with me, either.

I thought Amy in this film was basically unsufferable. That absolutely doesn’t mean she deserved anything that happened to her, but it was hard to watch. It didn’t feel like the kind of playful teasing or joking you do with someone you love, it felt like she was just being mean-spirited.

The first hour and some is interesting as a drama story, but not really scary. The last 30 minutes gets really intense and then you see the violence and thriller/horror parts come out.

Dustin Hoffman was really great in this. But overall it’s not that impressive. I think I’ve already seen the remake I’ll be watching tomorrow, and I remember liking it, so we’ll see if that still holds true!
