Subservience (2024)★★★☆☆

Yes, yes, this is another “wary of AI” movie like last night’s. And of course, especially given that it stars Megan Fox, this one has been called a sexy rehash of M3GAN (and it’s also just been called “M3gan Fox”, I guess).

And I really wanted to like it, because I do mostly like Megan Fox, and I definitely like Madeline Zima, but there was something so unbelievable about everything in this movie. Megan Fox as a domestic house AI makes so little sense that the entire conceit of the movie kind of falls apart from the start.

And then it’s SLOW. Megan Fox tries to be creepy from the start, but nothing really creepy happens until later in the movie. It certainly picks up speed for the ending, but even that felt kind of anticlimactic.

This wasn’t awful and was entertaining enough as something to just kind of leave on while doing other things, but I was expecting more from it. I guess that’s on me.
