The Advent Calendar (2021)★★★★☆

A new day, a new December. And a new movie just in time to start your own advent calendar? I have complicated feelings about this one.

On the one hand, I love the taking of a regular horror trope and turning it into an advent calendar. I think the death scenes are scary and the cinematography is incredible. I think the acting is really good.

On the other hand, the entire premise of this film is “ableism”. It’s hard to separate out the ableism from how much I genuinely enjoyed the scary parts of this.

So I’ll let someone else explain it a little better. Dylyn from Hear Us Scream calls this film “A Candy-Coated Trinity of Blood, Guts, and Ableism” and I can’t help but agree.
