I have honestly been procrastinating writing about this movie for SO LONG. I love it. I have watched it SO MANY TIMES. I have tried to convince all of my friends and family to watch it. Sometimes I put it on to fall asleep to. But I’ve been struggling to really put into words WHY I love it so much.

So of course I watched it again. And I’m still not sure what to say. Honestly? What I say about this most often is “I love this horror movie. It’s hilarious.”

I love that this movie is a satire, but not really of horror movies, more of a bunch of different social groups. It just so expertly skewers - pun intended - influencers, tech bros, corporate America, foodies, and on and on… It’s like “eat the rich: the movie”. I felt personally called out multiple times, particularly during Lillian’s big moments, and that really just added to the charm.

Everyone really throws themselves into their characters. Hong Chau’s Elsa is my favorite character, followed closely by Nicholas Hoult’s Tyler, though for completely different reasons. There’s some really great cinematography and color choices, and you know I love an understated musical score.

Look, I could spoil this for you and write more words gushing about all the scenes and the twists and turns and, yes, gore…but really, I think you should just watch this movie for yourself.
