The Owners (2020)★★★☆☆

I wanted to like this much more. It’s got a whole lot going for it! Maisie Williams! Creepy old couple in a big old house!

But it takes too long to get to anything, and when it finally DOES, it’s the less interesting, probably-saw-it-coming events before the genuinely creepy events.

It eventually gets to where it’s going, which is suitably scary, I guess, but makes so many weird choices along the way (like the random switch off of widescreen for like 15 minutes??).

I think this could have been better if the story was tighter, or the truly creepy stuff were revealed sooner, even if in pieces. This one felt like it was all one thing until it was suddenly another.

(I know, that’s all kind of vague. I’m trying not to spoil much?) Anyway, I wouldn’t actively recommend against watching this…but I also find it hard to recommend you do.
