The Perfect Host (2010)★★★★☆
After a few not so great movies, I wanted something I knew I’d like. This was a good choice. While it’s not the most terrifying movie I’ve ever seen, it’s well made and really interesting. Definitely a step above the last few movies I’ve watched.
Besides, it’s got David Hyde Pierce. Okay, that’s an understatement. It stars David Hyde Pierce, and he’s great in it. The rest of the cast was unfamiliar to me, but they all did pretty well.
I really like the way this one starts out. The story really pulls you in, and the opening credits and title screen are so nicely understated. The music is also perfect for the opening sequence and pretty well done through the rest of the movie.
There are predictable parts to the story, and it gets considerably less believable towards the end, but by that time you’re already drawn in and you almost have to forgive it. That’s a little annoying, but not enough to make me like the movie any less overall.
There are some reasonably graphic scenes in this and it has its disturbing moments, but this is a good psychological thriller that will keep you at the edge of your seat.
