VHS seems like a strange concept for an anthology made in 2012. The concept is questionable when the one “tape” contains footage from a secret spy camera in someone’s glasses and even more questionable when another tape contains a recorded FaceTime interaction.
So there are definitely some technical concerns with this anthology, or at least with the whole VHS concept. That said, I still like the collection. Enough that I’m going to watch the two sequels over the next two days.
Maybe it’s because I like Ti West (I do). Or because I love a good anthology film, and a found footage anthology film is even more up my alley. Whatever it is, I like this collection. Just don’t think too hard about the VHS concept. Which will be hard because they keep reminding you that that’s the concept.
