Watcher (2022)★★★☆☆

Okay, after a few movies in a row that I really liked (loved!), I’m back to a movie that was disappointing. This is another movie that was pretty hyped up for a while, so I was excited to finally get around to it…and was pretty disappointed.

You know I don’t love slow-burn films, and this kind of felt like one. It wasn’t that long, and honestly there weren’t a lot of dragging parts, but it felt slow, like the tension wasn’t being built at a reasonable pace?

Look, Maika Monroe is great. She’s been in a couple scary movies I genuinely enjoyed! And the “English-speaking woman in a foreign country where she doesn’t really know anyone or understand the language” is a pretty common scary movie trope that’s been well done in the past.

But I was kind of bored by this movie until the very end. I don’t actively recommend skipping it, but if it was way hyped up for you, you might find yourself a bit disappointed as well.
