When Evil Lurks (2023)★★★★☆

This is another movie that I heard a lot of hype about last year when it came out. People really liked it! I was surprised by how much I heard about this movie, particularly for a Spanish-language film.

But I can see why people liked it. (Maybe spoilers) You get dropped in the middle of a world where demonic possessions happen regularly enough that there are official departments dedicated to cleaning them up (that are varying degrees of ineffective), and the rest of the movie is what happens when you don’t do the damn exorcism.

It’s dark, it’s tense, and there is a lot of blood and gore. I think the (very) ending isn’t quite as solid as the rest of the movie, but I don’t know how I’d suggest they change it, so I’ll just lodge my minor complaint and leave it there.

I think you have to be a pretty big horror fan already to be into this movie, but if you are, it’s probably worth a watch.
