Deep Fear (2022)★★★☆☆

Poster

Okay, this is another movie I was all in on for the first hour before it got weird and a bit silly.

Also, it’s French. As in, English subtitles for a French-language film. Which I wasn’t expecting for a movie called Deep Fear.

This is actually the third movie (see here and here) I’ve written about set in the Paris Catacombs, but the first actually in French. I think the catacombs are a super interesting location for creepy stories! It’s just a bummer that so far all the movies I’ve watched about them are middle-of-the-road.

It’s a short movie, but I think it could have been longer. I find many scary movies to be successful without much exposition or explanation, but I felt the lack of any explanation here detracted a little from the story.

I found the characters likable and mostly realistic, the pacing fine, and the scares pretty neat and creepy. It just kind of falls down a bit too much at the very end.
