Flatliners (2017)★★★★☆
I love it when remakes/reboots are meaningful and can stand on their own, and I feel like this movie does just that. I liked it about as much as the original, which is impressive considering that that was a Joel Schumacher film, and you know I love those.
This one’s also a bit darker and scarier than the original, also impressive given its PG-13 rating.
(Spoilers ahead) I feel like this remake is kind of a combination of Limitless and the original Flatliners, and I don’t hate that. It adds a little to the motivations behind the group. I feel like the truly supernatural stuff is played up a bit more in this one, and I don’t hate that either.
And of course I appreciated Kiefer Sutherland’s appearance! I love nods to originals, and I appreciate that his character is the one casting doubt on the main group. Also - I felt like he sounded SO MUCH like his dad in this movie! Which is really neither here nor there, but stuck out to me every time he was on screen.
