The People Under the Stairs (1991)★★★★★

After watching this for the first time tonight, I’m wondering how had I not seen this before tonight? It must be the end of the year, because I’m pretty sure I’ve used that joke before.

Seriously though, I loved this. It’s Wes Craven at his best. Even the dialogue was spot on in this one. It’s not really scary (though it has its tense moments), but it’s really entertaining.

It helps that the acting is great. From a young Ving Rames as Leroy, to a younger A. J. Langer as Alice, to an even younger Brandon Adams as Fool, everyone delivered a great performance.

Overall this is a fun cat-and-mouse game with a decent payoff. Fans of Wes Craven and other horror should enjoy it.
